What would God say to Pastor Ed Young?

pastor ed youngPastor Ed Young has started a new sermon series this year called “What Would Jesus Say to…”

Here’s part of the press release:

Beginning January 5 and 6, Pastor Ed Young of the multi-state Fellowship Church will begin a new series entitled, “What Would Jesus Say To…” In this new series, Ed Young will take an in-depth look at some conversations Jesus would have if he sat down one-on-one with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, LeBron James, Ellen DeGeneres and more.

While Pastor Ed Young recognizes that it may seem presumptuous to claim to know what Jesus’ conversations would be, he said in a recent article with ChristianPost.com, “if you look at the Gospel to see Jesus’ interaction with people 2,000 years ago, it can be paralleled with the celebrities that we admire today.”

Celebrities are the center of so much of today’s culture, and that has been the case since the time of Christ. Because of that reality, Ed Young and Fellowship Church are confident this series will strike a chord with everyone attending.

OK… let’s turn things around a little bit on Ed.

Let us not forget, this guy said, while doing a series on marital problems, in his view all marital problems are caused by the husband. This of course, echoes the seeming viewpoint of the SBC. A guy I know was subject to domestic violence from his wife many times. He sought counseling at his SBC church. The pastor told him the reason for the attacks was because he wasn’t a good husband. Ed Young is a jerk.

I would think Jesus would tell us all to look at what Paul said in Philippians 1:15-18, “It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice…”
Why are we being critical of a man who has shared Christ to thousands of people? Paul said it didn’t matter how or why Christ was preached, but that He was preached. If Ed is not preaching out of goodwill or in the Grace of God, then he will have to answer for that, until then he is doing what we are all supposed to be doing.
What are you doing to reach people where they are and share Christ with them?
Has anybody here done what Jesus said, “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.” (Matthew 18:15-17) Has anybody approached him personally to discuss the things y’all disagree with?

Right on, Jared, right on! Someight be surprised to hear Jesus say to Ed, “Well done.” Let’s not get hyped up over the mode if the message is authentic. I think Paul would have preached by whatever means in our day, just as he did in his. That’s all Ed is doing.
PS Name-calling is totally out of place here.

I would say – read what Jesus said about a rich man entering the kingdom of God. Evidently this pastor doesn’t read his bible very well. I think Jesus told the rich man to sell everything he had and give to the poor. Not???
