As mentioned above, R.C. Sproul Jr. had a hard week involving a felonious DUI with a minor in his vehicle. As a widower, father of 8 and grandfather to 1, Sproul has a lot on his plate which he obviously is not handling in a very healthy manner.
Why this story matters for church leaders: When you look at yourself or your colleagues, how many steps are you away from a situation such as Sproul finds himself in? What does it look like to see his story not as a cautionary tale but a catalyst to serve?
- How does your church view addicts? Many church have a healthy view of recovery and addiction and are welcoming to people at all stages of the addiction journey
- What can you do in your community? Is your church the ideal spot for “celebrate recovery” or an AA meeting?
- Is it time for prison outreach? What is your congregation doing to mentor and build relationships with the jails and prisons in your community? How could this turn lives or families around?
What is your gut reaction to the news of a fallen leader?
How can you improve dialogue with those outside of your congregation? Find this story interesting? It’s just one of dozens of stories great leaders are reading about this week in Ministry Briefing! All readers of my blog can get the next four issues of Ministry Briefing for just $1!
