Yes… more people approve of the president’s job performance than the church’s.
According to Rasmussen’s daily poll, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president’s job performance.
According to Gallup, only 44% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the church or organized religion.
OK… I realize these are two different polls, each tracking different things with different groups… but the point still remains…
THE CHURCH HAS A MAJOR PR PROBLEM
Of only 44% of people have confidence in church or organized religion as a whole, that means that 56% do not.
What can we do about this?
(other than complain)
Seriously. Any ideas?
Todd

Man, this sure doesn’t line up with my reading of Scripture. Arent they supposed to love us just like they loved Him?
Amen Jud. and Todd I have read enough to know you aren’t really concerned that the “church” needs approval from this world. If we bring criticism upon ourselves because we are not a true reflection of Christ, (or truly idiots) that’s one thing. All the PR in the world will never make a wrath-sparing gospel that calls for surrender cool….of course a gospel that calls for nothing might cause that approval rating to shoot up.
From the end of Acts 2:
“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.”
These sound like good statistics.
Most of you are missing the point. It isn’t so the world will like us. Jesus says they’ll hate us. But its about how much influence we have in the culture to speak God’s love. If they see so little of Christ’s love in us, then why would they trust our message. If they hate you for LOVINGLY telling them the good news of Jesus and serving them, then so be it. But if it is because we are arrogant, loudmouthed, hyper political ect, then we need to see this as sobering news and repent and seek to be doing the things that make the name of Jesus great…especially in a country claiming 80% identification with the Christian faith.
Well said Erik!
