One Pastor on why his church is severing ties with the Boy Scouts…

Bryant Wright is pastor at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church and a former President of the SBC.  Here’s his response to the Boy Scouts:

What do you think?  A good and reasoned approach?

What’s your take?  How will your church/has your church responded?  And do you feel that it is important that you DO respond as a church, or is it unnecessary?

Great! Well done for your courage in this age where “churches” and “pastors” are afraid to stand for the truth in order to look cool or be politically correct.

It was inappropriate to make a public response. Period. This is one thing that I preach about repeatedly. While I agree with the churches decision to dissociate from the BSA, it is NOT the job of the church to preach what IS or IS NOT sin to the rest of the world. That is the job of the Holy Spirit and ONLY the Holy Spirit. When the church crosses the line of preaching anything more than the Gospel of Jesus Christ when dealing with a lost world, they over step their bounds. Within the four walls of the church, it is the job of the church to make disciples. One cannot be a disciple until they have chosen to follow Christ. This judgmental approach (no matter how “nice” they try to make it) is repulsive, disgusting, AND sinful. Shame on this pastor for posting or sharing this video anywhere outside of his church. Granted, some will misconstrue what I have typed here. Love God First and Best, Love everyone else just as much, Preach the Gospel, forgive no matter what happens, and leave the rest to God.

If it is NOT the church’s responsibility to take a public stand against the vocal minority of the gay community, whose job is it?!! Your way of thinking is the reason these “activists” are emboldened to push for more and more access to programs such as the Boy Scouts. Part of the Great Commission is to spread the gospel to the uttermost parts of the sin sick world. I pray you’re not standing in a pulpit telling your flock to bury their heads in the sand, hoping this will pass them by!! It takes spiritual conviction and courage to stand for Jesus!! And if getting along is your primary method of confronting obvious sin, then, as lukewarm Christians, you know how the Ultimate Judge of this world will react. His word and promises will stand!!!!

Just for fun, I purposefully made a hypocritical statement in my post. What was it? Can you tell?

Doing what he has to do to make his congregation happy. Let the eagle scouts finish? Aboose? .

He just made sure that many young people in his area won’t hear or see the message of the Gospel from his church, but it sure made him look good to the rednecks. If he would have waved a flag during the speech it would have been great. Maybe install a sin detector at the door to the church?
