This is a video created a few years ago for the launch of the book A Multisite Church Roadtrip (Zondervan, 2009), but the message is still highly relevant, especially with the recent news of the number of multisite churches reaching more than 5,000 in N. America.

One of the concerns about the multi-site model is whether each “site” has some autonomy regarding the actual in-service assembly, or whether they use a system where a live video feed is used from a central location to ensure uniformity of message and service order. The concern is that the natural growth and evolution of the congregation and the message for that site may get lost in having one site/person make decisions. Certainly, there needs to be a common vision, but I heard a sermon by Adrian Rogers in which he said “What the church needs is unity, not uniformity; diversity, not division”. As long as multi-site churches make it their goal to have diversity and unity, I think they will do just fine.
