By 2036, Millennials are projected to reach 81 million in the U.S. Today they number 75.4 million and have surpassed Baby Boomers as the largest generation in America. As the Baby Boomers decline in numbers, Generation X is expected to outnumber them by 2028 with 65 million members.
Why this story matters for church leaders:
Baby Boomers have been the dominant generation for a long time in many churches, but with the rise of the Millennials, churches will face new challenges.
- Millennials Are Diverse: Diversity is a hallmark of the Millennial generation since immigration is a major factor in their growth today. How will your church reach a more diverse generation?
- Baby Boomers and Ministry Needs: New ministry opportunities arise as Baby Boomers retire. Some will seek ways to serve, while others may need additional help with their day to day care.
- Should You Adapt to Millennials? Millennials are noted as generous with their time and money in ways that are very different from Baby Boomers. How should churches adapt?
How will generational trends impact your church in the next ten years?
