Elvis’ Bible up for auction… gives insight into his faith

The Bible of Elvis Presley is up for auction.  Here are some of the notes that Elvis had in the margins of his Bible:

“To judge a man by his weakest link or deed is like judging the power of the ocean by one wave.”

“For what is a man advantaged if he gain the whole world and lose himself or be cast away”.

“There is a season for everything, patience will reward you and reveal all answers to your questions”.

“May our souls join the spirit of One God”.

This article states that while Elvis stopped going to church in the 1950s, he still maintained that he was a Christ-follower, despite the fact that many church leaders were very harsh critics, convinced that his “gyrating hips and gravelly tones” were somehow sinful.

The Bible is estimated to go for about $25,000.

I find more value in the worn out pages, torn edges, highlighted and underlined passages of a bible that is falling apart…because I know the owner of that Bible is not falling apart. And the warn out bible is worth much more than $25,000.

How could Elvis be a Christ-follower and not be part of the church?

I remember hearing a musician talk about having “church” with Elvis following concerts. They would sing hymns and worship together until the early hours in the morning. And one of the reasons for this was that anywhere he went, he would be mobbed, even church. Sad.
