There was an average of 77 churches planted each week in 2014 according to the statistics from 34 denominations. That means there were 4,000 churches planted compared to the 3,700 churches that closed. Church plants are one of the most effective ways to reach new people with the gospel since 42% of those worshiping in churches launched since 2008 are either new to church or returned after many years away.
Why this story matters for church leaders:
Church planting is effective at reaching new people with the Gospel and could be picking up momentum in America.
- Changing the narrative of churches in America: As the number of churches in America appears to be increasing, church planting offers an encouraging trend for church leaders and staff to consider.
- How do churches reach the lost? While planting a church is a lot of work, the research is undeniable: new churches reach new people with the Gospel. If your church is passionate about reaching people, then a church plant may be the most effective path to consider.
- Do we really need more churches? We shouldn’t forget that a large number of churches are closing every week, so church planting is needed more than ever in order to reach people who may have never considered going to church or had no interest in attending a church that closed recently.
How can your church support church plants in your community?
