Wendy Grisham, sister of John Grisham (yes, THAT John Grisham), is launching a new publisher focusing on non-traditional Christian voices.
According to Grisham, Jericho Books is reaching out to a whole new market in the Christian world:
“We’re providing a place for difficult conversations in the faith community. There’s a growing movement of voices that are pushing traditional boundaries, and we’re creating a place for them.”
Jericho has already signed several new authors, including Matthew Paul Turner, of Jesus Needs New PR fame, Jay Bakker, and Justin Lee, the founder of the Gay Christian Network.
It seems that this publisher will be focused on social justice concerns, and some of the more progressive elements of the Christian community. In this edition of Ministry Briefing, we ask the question:
Is Jericho Books a good thing, a bad thing, or just a thing?

I’m not sure that talking about God is ever a bad thing, but I don’t think their intention is to talk about God. I think they just want to publish their ideas of what they want a god to be or what they want God to tolerate. The weird part is that so many people think that if its actually published it has some merit. It just shows a business seeing a niche to make money and taking advantage of it. Were this not a Grisham backed endeavor, would it actually get off the ground? Would it have the funding and publicity?
