Why this story matters for church leaders:

The church can be a place of unity and hope as communities grieve unnecessary violence.

  • Diversity Is Intentional: It’s easy to stick with what you know, but diversity means seeking out the contributions of others.
  • Reconciliation Is Urgent: As black families mourn and live in fear, the church can be a place of understanding and reconciliation.
  • Mergers Help: Congregations that need a fresh start can be revitalized with a merger–provided it’s done carefully!

Are there ways your church can speak to reconciliation in your community?
