Light shines brighter in darkness. If all the above had gone the christian/conservative way, would these referendums alone have brought anyone into the kingdom or God? I don’t think so. Our battle is not to have a “christian” culture void of Jesus at the center. Our war is not for a culture, it is for the souls of men, women and children.
There is a felt tension between performing ‘the commission,’ and here is an easy way to force people to act like believers: turn your energy towards the political process, lawsuits, and passing laws.
What laws are passed or not is merely an indicator of where the heart of society is. The more energy that is focused on the political process is less energy that is spent on sharing the news that will change peoples hearts, and love God.
“What I desire is a change of heart.”
LOVE the two previous responses!!! I get so annoyed when Christians whine and complain about what the “world” is doing. They say, “As Christians, we can’t do this, we can’t do that, we’re so persecuted.” Give me a break. I LOVE GOD! And I live that out. Maybe if we acted more like Christ, spending ourselves in service to others instead of expecting “the world” to conform to us and bow down at our feet, we would be doing a much better job of affecting our communities and culture.
I seriuosly think God is much more excited when we lay our lives down in service to him then when another law is passed. Laws don’t save people. God, working through us, saves people. But when we act hypocritical, judgemental, condescending, superior, self-righteous and just down right hateful, God isn’t glorified and people don’t come to see the indescrible love, grace, mercy and peace that can be found in Him. Let’s stop blaming the world and let’s start affecting change through real service to others.
