Concerns over the economy were felt by nearly 80% of Americans in 2009 at the height of the recession, but now it has dropped close to 45%. As of 2015, only 28% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, which is an improvement from 40% the year before. In addition, 65% of Americans are secure in their jobs and overall are not worried about cutting spending dramatically.
Why this story matters for church leaders:
Money is always in close competition with God, so are there ways that pastors can speak to the new sense of financial security that many experience?
- Discipleship and Stewardship: As more Americans transition to financial stability, how can pastors help their congregations continue to trust in God’s provision and not lose sight of God’s calling?
- Planning Ahead: Is now the time to help your congregation save up funds? Should you host a class on finances?
- Your Next Campaign: When should you plan your next stewardship campaign in light of this trend?
How has your congregation experienced the financial recovery?
